Mom's new apron

I sent my mom my first apron that I've made for Mother's Day. she absolutely loved it and wears it every night now when she cooks dinner!
Ok I'm on a roll with crafts again, next project Baby F's present part deux. Stay tuned!

My best friend and maid of honor just got engaged this weekend!!!!! I couldn't be happier for her and her new beyoncé.

Dear S & R,

I can't express over the phone or computer how incredibly ecstatic I am for the both of you.

S, you are one of the most important people in my life. We've watched each other evolve as friends and women for the past 5 years and it makes me so happy to see that you've met your perfect match and found true happiness and love in him.
R, I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed us becoming better friends. You are such an inspiration as an artist and so kind to everyone around you. I'm so glad that you are in Sarah's life and will be for a long time to come!
The two of you are such a beautiful and unique couple. I wish you all the happiness and love in the world as you start the new chapter in your lives together.
I love you both so much and wish I was there to celebrate!

Ideas, Ideas

I've just been feeling really motivated and inspired lately, which I've needed for a long time. I have so many new jewelry and other craft ideas stirring around in my head! I love it.

One of my new daily go-to sites is Design Sponge. I'm so hooked. I really love this desk, i might need to make one of my own for a little craft/jewelry work station.

The stone in the wire-wrapped ring is jade:






The necklace was made from a graphic of some vintage wallpaper that I scanned and downsized. Then I applied diamond glaze over the setting and image to create a glass effect:

Opening Ceremony had a little gathering for the kicks last night.
Store owner Humberto Leon said "Most athletic shoes for women aren't that good and the guys get the best colorways, but taking the feminine theme so far actually works and looks cool."

I totally agree. Working at Nike it's not uncommon for me to say "I wish these came in my size!" I see so many dope pairs of mens shoes pass by wishing they were made for women. I'll be rockin' the Libertys for sure.

Way to go JL! These rule.

Doggie Dash

Work has been so busy lately, the last thing I want to do is get on the computer when I get home. That's my excuse for being absent lately, does it work? It's slowed down a bit and I can take a sec during my lunch break to escape to the magical land of blogging.

So this Saturday is not only S&O's big baby shower bash, it's also the Oregon Humane Society Doggie Dash!!! It's a 2 mile walk/run to benefit the Humane Society. 100% of the registration fees and sponsorships go directly to the OHS. Their goal is $150,000.00 and they've already achieved $136,962.90 of it, thanks to many of you!

I hold a place in my heart for the Oregon Humane Society because that is where we adopted Mona from, so it feels good to give back a bit. There are just so many abused and neglected animals that go into shelters every year. If I could, I would adopt them all! At least this way they will get the proper resources and care they need living in a shelter.

Mona, Jen, Sage and I will be running on Saturday morning at 9:15 am, if you're in the area come by and cheers us on!

Bday Weekend, what what!

It's only Wednesday and I can't WAIT for the weekend! Jas gets here on Friday afternoon and then it's nothin' but fun for 3 1/2 days! yeow!
Friday night we're doing dinner the 3 of us and then going to see Ash at the Public House. Saturday we'll be go karting in the early evening with some of the buds, pizza & snacks then out for drinks, could potentially get a little rowdy! Sunday, chillin with Jas and then Monday (Robb's actual bday) I'll be taking a half day to spend it with the birthday boy.
Ugh I can't believe I have to wait 2 more days before all this fun starts!
btw... Robb is gonna be 32 on the 28th, don't forget to send him some bday love.

Save Darfur

Robb & I have had 3 Netflix dvds on top of our TV since probably xmas. For some reason, none of them have been very appealing to us to watch. I'm not sure why... 2 documentaries which both sound great and A Clockwork Orange, which we've both seen and love. After watching one of the documentaries last night I can't believe we waited this long.
"The Devil Came on Horseback" is about the ongoing genocide that is happening in Darfur. Sure I had heard about the situation and had heard celebrities and politicians speak out about saving Darfur, but I was completely unaware of the amount of atrocities and magnitude of the situation over there.
Since 2003 over 450, 000 people (this number was astonishing to me) have been killed, 2.5 -3 million are displaced, and 3.5 depend on food aid. I can't even comprehend this. Sudan's Arab government and Janajweed militia are attacking these black African citizens solely because of their ethnicity and tribal affliation. They are burning villages and people, raping women, killing small children, for what? These people are of no threat to them, they can barely survive to begin with.
And what are we doing about it? What is America, our government doing? NOTHING. We're wasting our time in Iraq fighting a war for no reason. We're sitting here watching this happen, when we were told this would never happen again. After the genocide in Rwanda in 1994, our government promised us that nothing like that would ever be allowed to go on again. Well, here we are again...
And SO many people are unaware of it. Why? Because the media only focuses on the "War on Terror" apparently that's the only thing important going on in this world.
Sorry to sound so bitter, but I find it so disappointing that we have so many resources that could be utilized to help end this disaster in Sudan, but yet no one is stepping up to the plate.
It is however encouraging to hear that our own state has made efforts to stop what is happening. In 2005, the state of Oregon sold $35 million in holdings it had invested in four oil companies that work in Sudan. This sort of action needs to continue. There are bills that have been passed, the Darfur Accountability and Divestment Act, the Genocide Accountability Act and the Sudan Accountability and Divestment Act. Now all we need is for our president to implement these acts. Go here to send him a message about how important this is. There is also a divestment guide to help you find out if your investments help fund the genocide in Darfur.
