Kiki Smith

Jenn was in town visiting this weekend and the 3 of us took a trip to the Portland Art Museum. This is one of my favorite parts of PDX. We just re-newed our membership for the 2nd year and I plan on taking many more trips than last year. There is something about me and museums, I feel so good in them. Just wandering the vast rooms of art and finding something new every time I'm there that I can't stop thinking about. Or in this case revisiting something that I've seen before and fall even more in love with.
That's how I feel about the permanent piece of Kiki Smith's that is there. My mom first introduced me to her work at one of our trips to the museum and everytime I see it I become more drawn to it. If you're in Portland it's definitely worth checking out.

Rob Ryan

I've been in love with Rob Ryan's work for a long time. We even registered for one of his pieces for our wedding. I could easily fill my house with all his painting and paper cuts. Don't you just love how romantic he is with words?

Spring Has Sprung

These Dutch tulip fields makes it really feel like spring has begun. I've been loving walking around the neighborhood and seeing all the daffodils and crocuses. Spring can't get here soon enough!

Peter Beard

Jess & Finlay came over for a visit on Sunday. It was so great to see them and catch up for a bit.
Jess brought us over a wonderful wedding gift, the Peter Beard Collection in a wonderful cloth slipcase.
Neither Robb nor I had heard of Peter Beard, but both instantly fell in love with his work. His photography and collage is mesmerizing, especially all his work from time spent in Africa. Needless to say, we haven't been able to put the book down. Thank you Jeff, Jess & Finlay!

The Countdown

for anyone that knows me well, they know that around December 8th i start "the countdown". i've done this since i could speak and every year it never fails. on December 8th i would announce to my Mom, Dad and anyone interested that it was 3 months until my birthday. This would reoccur on January 8th (2 months till my birthday!!!), February 8th (1 month till my birthday!!!!) and then after that it'd be 3, weeks, 2 weeks, 1 week and finally down to the days. i just love birthdays. not just mine, everyone's. i love giving birthday gifts, throwing birthday parties, the singing, all of it, especially if there is a surprise involved.
so for some reason this year, the countdown didn't happen. it snuck up on me. not sure if it was the move or my back or what but the other day robb & i were hiking and i had the realization that the countdown had never began this year...
i'm not the type of person who is focused on age or getting old. but i guess this does kinda feel like a big one. even more reason to get excited about it i suppose...
so this one goes out to my mom & robb:
ONLY 3 DAYS LEFT TILL MY BIRTHDAY BITCHES!!!
